I'd like to leave my scanner at home, but occasionally stream the audio to myself at work (behind a firewall). Should I (could I) use Skype to do this? I've never tried Skype so I'm completely uninformed about it. I'd like to keep the connection private, with myself being the only listener. Will it even work, and is it the right approach? Have you used something else that's a better choice? I don't want to stream 24/7. I don't need to see the radio's "front panel" or control the radio -- I just want to listen now and then. Tnx.

I'm not familiar with Skype, but you could probably use just about any instant messenger program that supports voice such as ICQ, Windows Live or Yahoo. Just setup a username that only you would know. Once created, you could then go into options and set the program to auto accept voice calls. Then whenever you would like to listen to your scanner just initiate a voice call to that screen name.

I'm not sure about skype but you can easily setup a teamspeak server and make it password protected. You would have to download the Teamspeak server at home and teamspeak client at work. You can get teamspeak from http://www.goteamspeak.com/

Just use the Stream Town Web that everyone else is using but don't share the address. You can change address daily if you like for security.

Thanks very much for all the good suggestions. I'll start checking them out. Looks like there are several good options.

Logmein doesn't do voice or sound.
Some corporate firewalls block port 8080 when using Windows encoder.

Streamwebtown is easy and sound is great...unless it drops.

Media encoder allows you to use any port. So if 8080 is blocked, use another.
