Streamline my scanning?

I only scan the side of the city I live on, a small portion of a large P25 system. I am new to the SDS200 and these large linked P25 systems. I notice my SDS200 flashes LINK, DATA, P25, in on the top center of the screen.

I want to make sure I am not needlessly scanning data frequency or something in order to streamline and speed up my scanning?

Are you using the full database or one/more favorites lists? If FLs, are you using location control on the FLs?

In general, you want to ensure you are only monitoring the site(s) that are within receivable distance from your location. This can be accomplished by: (1) using location control; (2) avoiding the sites not within appropriate distance; (3) removing the sites from your FL that are not within appropriate distance; or (4) using quick keys and turning sites on/off as needed.

Not all traffic is carried on all sites, so it may be of interest to you to scan a few sites. All depends on the system and your preferences.

I used the Sentinel software to load the entire System then I removed everything except the precinct I live in

Sorry I am still learning how all this works.. like drinking from a firehose. It doesn't help me that I am in a large city with many Sites on one large system. gets kind of confusing for me.

If your 200 for the most part is going to sit in your house like mine does, you only need the site or sites for your area. Larger statewide systems can be challenging especially for those new to the scanner and Sentinel software. If you post your county and agencies of interest, I sure someone will offer up some advice.

I notice my SDS200 flashes LINK, DATA, P25, in on the top center of the screen.

P25- Showing the system the scanner is currently decoding.
DATA- The scanner is receiving a trunking control channel.
LINK- The scanner is locked onto one of the systems voice channels & is receiving it.

When the scanner is actively receiving something, the mode (P25, DMR, and etc) will appear along side LINK indicating that it’s decoding- which is good. On my SDS100 I always have Digital Status displaying x2 on the upper-right of my screen.

If you do not want to see that, pretty sure those can be changed or removed in the 100/200 display option editor.

I just did, but, in the future, just hit Report on the first post in the thead, and enter the reason.
