I haven't heard that kind of VHF activity since the mid 80's. Back then, for a several week period, my employer and I could work into the Carolinas with our handhelds (FM even!) if we got up early enough. Due to this activity, he gave me card blanche with the shop equipment and materials for antenna construction on any bands I wished. He has since passed away but I'll never forget his support of the hobby and the enjoyment we had designing and testing antenna after antenna. I know that not everyone has an employer like that. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Yeah, DX like this still brings back some of the fun I had when I first got into this hobby. I used to get skip a lot to the FL gulf coast, but this is the first time I've had VHF skip to the north. Probably helps that I have a log periodic pointed that way. Also think I logged Mammoth Cave NP police on 169.550 I have that as a customs channel and they were running tags which I thought was odd. On further research I came up with that. Really great monitoring. Hope for a repeat tonight.

I heard East Baton Rouge Parish Fire dispatch on 154.4450 CSQ in late May, early June. From the Dallas Ft Worth area. Was loud and clear for several hours around 8 am. That is the farthest that I have ever heard VHF highland skip.
