Stroud Frequencies

I was up in the Stroud area as the storms went through last Saturday. I heard a lot of traffic on 153.860MHz that sounded like Stroud Fire units checking for damage after the storm had passed. The storm spotters were on 154.400MHz, and Stroud PD was on 155.010MHz. I did not hear any traffic on 154.280MHz, which should have been acitve in my scanner (see Mustang Fire). Does anyone know if 153.860 is Stroud Fire or another Stroud agency? Does Stroud use 154.280MHz?

I was in Stroud as well the other night during that tornado. We chased that storm from back in Kingfisher through Canadian and the north side of Oklahoma county on Waterloo. We then got on I-35 to the Turner and caught up with it just outside of Stroud. When I got to Lincoln county I mainly monitored (154.4) and Chandler on (147.36) as well as (453.75) which I think was Stroud PD. We followed that storm all the way home to Tulsa and got alot of great footage of the tornado when the lightning would flash. What at night and what a storm!

I always wondered about 453.750MHz in Lincoln County. It is licensed to the county, but it is located in Stroud. I recall the license showing up about the same time as the Tanger Outlet Mall, so I assumed there was some connection (possibly mall security provided by the county?).

I checked the FCC license a bit more carefully and I see the return address is to the Emergency Management Director of Lincoln County. I guess I'll have to give him a call and see what gives. His group did a great job last Saturday, especially given the difficulties of spotting in the dark.

Stroud Police are definitely on 155.010MHz. I heard them that night, after things had calmed down and we were stopped for gas for the return trip. I just was curious about 154.280MHz, because I would have thought Stroud Fire would have been going crazy with a tornado on the ground just north of their town.

We had picked up the storm just east of Geary (the town, not England :roll and tracked it across to Stroud. It kept dropping small tornadoes that rotated back into the precip and disappeared. We were very lucky not to have a long track tornado across metro OKC once again.

By the way, I hate tornadic storms after dark. Everything looks like a wall could in lighting flashes. It's just a whole lot easier to get in the wrong position. It's also harder to get out of the way of things you can't see (like 100mph RFD :shock: ).

FYI: Lincoln Cty Emergency Management has started to use the Lincoln Cty 800 MHz trunking system, so look for a reduction in the use of 154.400 MHz. This is expected to cut down on the interference from county fire users on 154.400 MHz. But now I have to buy a 800 MHz radio!

There was an insane amount of people were you guys were setup at on 35 .. couldnt belive it. Made me laugh when Aaron T. said that "every storm tracker in America was out .. "

When we got to the I-35 and Covell Bridge, there was one other car up there. After about 10 minutes, it seemed like half the world was there and blocking parts of the road. OHP didn't know what to do with us (We weren't blocking the road, but others were).

Alright, according to my friend in Lincoln County, 453.750 MHz is used by the S.O., but used very little. I expect that will decline to zero as the 800 MHz system comes online.

153.860 MHz is Stroud F.D., and is their primary use frequency.

As Lincoln County's trunked system becomes more widely used, I would guess that more users will switch over to it. I just wish it was a conventional Type II Motorola system. I believe I'll be able to get authorization (as long as I buy my own radio), but it would be nice to buy just one radio, instead of a LTR now, and a Moto Type II for other systems later. Oh well.............

Also, Chandler has a license for 155.925MHz. I remember when I was a wee lad, they used this for Police. I even heard my own tag run on this frequency, but that's another story.

Any idea if they still use 155.925MHz for anything?

Apparently Stroud is using the newer frequency instead of 154.280 or 154.400 MHz, less congestion I expect. I've encouraged my buddy in Lincoln Cty to post his information, he's already a member here. I have to confess to a certain amount of tunnel vision regarding the agencies I've monitored the last couple of years, I need to expand my range again. LOL, I still have the crystals for a couple of those freqs around here somewhere!

I think everybody is carrying licenses for their old freqs, either as a backup for emergencies, or simply due to bureaucratic inertia.

Got some vacation coming up in a couple of weeks, I plan to do a little research on some of the neighboring counties that aren't well represented in the database. I got a clone for my 780 from a friend at an OKC TV station, I'm using that as my basis. As I make some determinations of usage, I'll submit the updates.

Here's one even better for you! One of the local county commissioners let all the county radio licenses expire last year. She "reasoned" (?) that the county no longer needed the radio licenses because everybody has cellphones now. BOY, did that cause a cluster-f**k! But at least that finally resulted in the county dropping their old lowband license that hadn't been used in at least 35 years!

Hey guys, i was on that storm the minute it went up in rogers mills county, a second storm went up just south and then merged, i think near clinton, i saw the first tornado near thomas, i followed all the way to wagoner, great structure, good inflow, and yes a bunch of chasers, anyone see the tank chasing????
