STRS System

Heard LA City Fire Batallion 12 working a search and rescue tonight on this TRS system on Talkgroup 142. Interesting that these talkgroups are being used. I thought they may not be using them only as backup but was shocked to hear something go on.

Didn't realize that they were using these tac talkgroups. Didn't seem like anything was being patched from their conventional 800 mhz system. Does anybody know why they use these talkgroups sometimes instead of their analog tac channels?

Yes I have heard STRS use for emergency events including a large structure fire along with somesort of wildland rescue of hikers.
STRS otherwise seems to be used for special events, and is the primary point of contact for air ops.
I noted it was also utilized for a drill at LAX last year.

LAFD is not allowed to use the STRS for any IDHL emergency incident. Like LA Flyer said they can be used for drills, training, or events.
