I have a PRO-96,and am listening to digital on this. Do they make a stubby 800 antenna or am I better keeping the Radio Shack 800 antenna I now have on it. Thanks for the help.

They make stubby antennas, but they don't pick up as much as full-length antennas. (Full length on 800 MHz can be 3".)

AFAIK, they don't make stubby 800 MHz antennas with BNC connectors. I mean stubby as shorter than a quarter wave at 800 MHz.

There is the Comet CH-32 "Miracle Baby" stubby antenna, which is a little over an inch long, but it isn't really an 800 MHz specific antenna, but it will work there to some degree. Like AI42 said, an 800 MHz quarter wave is only about three inches long, and will likely work better than a stubby, unless the signals are strong to begin with.

I just got my pro-96 a couple weeks ago and radio shack sold me a stubby attenna that works ok if I am somewhat close to the towers. I usally keep the factory one on so I can get reception up by me .

I have never seen a true stubby 800MHz antenna; probably because the BNC connector would be about half the length of the antenna.

The closest you're going to find is a quarter wave whip. I sell the Centurion EXC-806-BNX for $17, and many people like it for their handheld 800MHz scanning needs.

Hi John, it's good to see someone who will admit they are trying to sell a product instead of just posting a generic link without any useful info.

Centurion made a smaller antenna that was a total lenght of 3.5 inches. I don't believe they are currently available. Also another one was made by someone else that resembled a hard plastic thimble. It also was approximately 3 inches long.
They where offered primarily for the GE-Ercisson PCS or the Standard HX400 Series T 800MHZ radios and the "beer can " antenna where for the PS speaker mikes.
However the issue of using a stubby would be more to the point of if you where trying to limit your recpetion to a closer sight or very strong system with out picking up signals that where more distant. The antenna mention by John Wayne or even this antenna
