Stuck in ID scan?

I just got the 396XT and I'm a bit overwhelmed by it. I'm used to the scanners of the '90s which were very straightforward. One of the many features I'm trying to understand is the ID scan/ID search functions. The radio seems to be constantly in these modes at the moment and I can't get it out. It's scanning through the frequencies and I'm picking up various transmissions but the second line of text down shows "ID scan" and then "ID search." Is this the correct mode it should be in while just generally searching through the freqs? I feel like I'm missing hearing conversations because I'm stuck in this ID scan and search mode.

ID Scan/Search only applies to trunked systems. ID Scan will scan the TGs you have programmed in, while ID Search will scan that plus any other TG on the system.

It sounds like you have at least two trunked systems (or sites) programmed in.

ID scan

I have a lot of frequencies programmed in. A friend programmed it for me. Is the scanner operating as it should or is it in a mode that I don't necessarily need or want?
