im not good with antennas but right now i have a stock antenna on my pro164 scanner and im just wondering how much more distance i could pick up with an antenna of 25-1300 MHz? thanks
It's not so much about type of antenna to get you more distance as it is the positioning AKA height. If you can get a given frequency with your current antenna but it is just a bit "fuzzy", another broadband antenna will not likely help you much. Some good coax and getting your antenna higher will help more.
He say's it's the stock antenna, so it's the height of whatever the factory antenna is.
Put any Multiband antenna outside and it will receive better then factory antenna.
Your budget and desired freq coverage can determine the type of antenna.
Or just get a discone, any thing is better then a factory antenna inside, VS a discone mounted outside.

If by outside you mean higher, then yes. If you are suggesting taking it from the living room and putting it on the front doorstep then there won't be much gain. Just using the stock antenna with a bit of good coax to get it up higher would show improvement.
