Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just purchased a used HT1000 since I love the ones we currently use on our rescue squad. I'm probably at some point going to want to hook it up to a mobile antenna on occasion. Therein lies the question. Am I correct in recalling the radio uses a reverse SMA?

Thanks in advance guys! :)

Yep

You got it. The radio has an SMA-Male base, and uses antennas that are SMA-Female base.

FYI adapter cables are commonly available from the usual sources, ebay etc.

They also make tiny little "barrel" like adapters to go between reverse and regular SMA connections,
but as always I'd avoid any extra connections and just use the right connector from the start.

Be careful - regular SMA-F connectors will not work. I just started a thread regarding this. The center pin of a normal SMA-F connector is sunk down inside the casing about 3/32-1/8". This makes the center pin in the radio's antenna jack not make contact with the center pin in your SMA connector (whether that is an adapter, barrel, or SMA-F directly on coax).

If you take off your antenna you'll note that the SMA-F connector on there has the center pin and dilectric flush with the casing (edge of the threaded part).

Does the adapter work with a speaker mic? Does it require a speaker mic or does it clip on in place of?

It takes the place of a speaker mic. Its clips on and off the same way. It works 100X better than any adapter that screws on the antenna.

Arrrg! Kenwood has the SMA connector that is recessed and Motorola uses the flush center pin. I'm always losing stuff and it seems I always have the wrong SMA to BNC adapter to work on a HT1250 and it won't connect to the service monitor correctly. I take the recessed adapter and file the bottom threads off until I can get it to screw down enough to work on a Motorola. Usually works if there are enough excess threads on the adapter.
