Substitute/Replacement for BP250 battery pack

I have a Uniden BC250D Scanner that uses the BP250 battery pack. The trouble is that the scanner only gets like 8 hours on every recharge which to me is hardly enough. So my question is : Do they make or can you buy a convertor/holder that will allow this scanner to operate off regular AA or other batteries ?. My analog scanners that take AA batteries will usually get a weeks worth ( 7 eight hour days ) of power from duracell AA's and I wish to get the same or similar from this one if possible. Also can anyone tell me if overheating with this scanner is an issue?. Because when its plugged into the wall wart for a spell it gets quite warm or warmer than i'm comfortable with. Thanks, Carl

They sure do get warm when plugged in but I've not had any problems with mine since I got it in 2002. I'm not sure that you're going to be able to do any better than 8 hours or so with this scanner no matter what you do--even if you pull the digital card from the unit it will only improve battery life by a small amount. Changing to alkalines (if possible) would likely give more up time but would still not be anywhere close to 50+ hours you've seen on the other scanners. Better to get a second or third battery pack, they're fairly cheap and you can just switch them out as needed.

Nice thought there pinellas.....how about a loan? Sorry but when u only get paid by uncle sam you have to do what you have to do so no upgrade in my future unless perhaps someone feels like donating me one?.

it was wishful thinking on my part... i understand i just spent over 1000 bucks on the 396t and the 996t.. but i havd no choice with the rebanding issues.. just check on ebay you may find a 396t for cheap..

Battery pack

I had a local battery company build a couple of spare packs for me with 2300mmh batteries. They work excellant. I have an old cradle charger from my 200 that I use to charge the spare. I get a good 14 hrs with heavy digital useage in our area.

They also use Sanyo cells which I think are the best.

RE:250/296 battery

Prime Cell makes an excellent replacement battery pack I use for my 296d. With digital card disabled, analog only, I get 12-14 hours per charge. A friend also has 296d with the Prime Cell pack and gets same results. We also about 10 hours when digi card is enabled. For some reason these radios consume more power with digi card.
They are at www.primecell.com It's the SanMax SMX 4.2v 2300mAh battery specifically for 250/296d radios. $19.95. They do require 20-24 hours to charge, but I use a 245xlt as back up during charge cycle.
