Hello...All I have been wanting to get into some Amateur Radio for some time now im a Blue collar contractor, I like working outdoors but always enjoyed playing with computer systems/ Networks etc...
I have been doing quite a bit of reading though out this forum and internet on Amateur radio for Ontario more Sudbury thats my closet town. I have about 1000.00 give or take to start my hobbie. From what i understand i should be able to pick up just about everything around me except police which is too bad. Was hoping someone here could point me to a scanner thats been tested for my area so many kinds ? There looks to be a great community of people on here hoping to become part of it....thanks for reading my post and for any start up help.. live long and listen

for a scanner i would suggest ether gre psr 800 or uniden home patrol scanners they are both digital trunking scanners and top of the line that is easy to program by entering in your location and selecting your local systems pretty handy for people who are just getting into this hobby. with these scanners you will be able to pick up opp ems mto roads and enforcement mnr and your local fire dept from what i am seeing and you can get them from radio world and durham radio in toronto or you can find them on ebay, scanner master, and gre and uniden web stores.

and if you want to be involved in amatuer radio contact your local amatuer radio club and they will be happy to help you so you can get your license for a transciever and call sign and get on the air and talk to people around the world.

Thank you for the reply animaljr43. I am very new I do quite a bit of research on my own but its nice to bounce off someone time to time...i will look into local amatuer radio club for my area thanks again.
