• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I realize this is going to sound stupid, but here goes:

I have a Unication G4 that I purchased with programming for my local p25 system TXWarn. I've been receiving TG's fine but this morning I turned on the radio and noticed I didn't hear anything for quite some time, then realized I'm getting 0 bars on the signal strength meter on the display. I've got the channel/zone knob in the normal position for scanning desired TGs and the radio actually says "scanning" ...

I had the radio connected to the computer via the programming cable last night & the Unication programming software up doing what I thought was "just looking" trying to figure out the programming.

Maybe I accidentally changed something? Or maybe my having it plugged into the computer & the software open last night is just a red herring and something else is going on because I don't remember changing/comitting/saving/writing anything. I fired up my Moto MTS 3000 and it's still receiving MCSO Sherrif & DPS talkgroups, so I know it's not like the TGs I monitor all went encrypted overnight or anything...

I'm in the Spring/Woodlands area North of Houston, TX & Listen to public safety frequencies such as MCSO Sherrif dispatch channels, DPS, etc. Any ideas of something easy to check on the radio or in the programming software? Maybe I accidentally (if it's easy to do) selected a different site that I'm not within receiving distance of or something?

Alternatively, I could just blow away the config and start again if someone that also listens to TXWarn near me could help me out with a basic config....

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

"Scanning" means it's looking for a control channel. Perhaps the control channel frequencies changed?

While you may have messed something up in PPS, you'd also have to have then uploaded the incorrect settings to the G4. Do you have a good backup of your profile that you can import back to PPS?

Did you read the pager when you hooked it up?
Did you write to it before you unplugged it?
Was it working after you unplugged it or did this fail this morning?
Have you tried a battery pull?

Just realized I am having the same issue with Tomball & Spring FD.. I am gonna check with the Transtar folks & see if they changed the control frequencies of the local towers. We're evidently neighbors.. lol

Also make sure all the primary and alternate control channels listed were programmed, if it’s a Harris system every frequency listed has to be programmed as they can all be used for the CC on a Harris system

It's Motorola, 4 control channels but some of the TxWARN stuff only uses two control channels IIRC. There are a number of things to force a control channel roll but the important thing is nothing forced the roll back to what the database lists as the primary control channel.

Do you have access to a scanner so you can verify the system has not been changed, thus causing your G4 to not work.

Did yours go back to working? I'm in The Woodlands.

I was trying to obtain the code plug my G4 came with so I could reflash it (bought it locally with some basic MoCo programming) and shelved it until today. Turned it on and boom, all is well. I'm thinking maybe the site programmed was down or having issues for a few days recently? I clearly need to work on understanding the G4 programming for my county better so I'm not so reliant on someone else's codeplug. Good thing I'm stuck at home indefinitely!

Thanks for all of the replies.

I'm working on trying to figure this out. I'm using the codeplug/programming my G4 came with... I'll be the first to admit I don't know enough about the programming on this thing or my Moto beyond my favorite TGs to monitor...
