The data base for Suffolk county is in need of a serious face lift. The Suffolk conventional page consists of 5 different types of stuff.
Fire
Ems/Volunteer Ambulance
Village, town pd, code enforcement
Village services/public works
Federal

Now there are 27 headings breaking this stuff up. There is a fire district heading that consists of fire districts. Then under other ems, there are Fire Company's that should be in with all the other fire freqs. There are village fire depts scattered under village headings that should be listed in with the fire freqs. They are all fire and should be kept together.

In the EMS section, there is Volunteer Ambulance, but then under the seperate villages, there are Volunteer Ambulance scattered there too. All ems/vollie anbulance should be together. This page is a mess.

What I would like to see is all fire dept freqs under a new heading "Fire Depts.
All Volunteer Ambulance listed under EMS

All village police/code enforcement listed under a new heading, police/code enforcement

All the public works/vilage services listed under a new heading, Public works/vilage services.

Trying to download this page with Butel is a nightmare.

I submitted my propossal to the mods and was asked by them to post here to see what feedback is generated. I am also willing to do it myself in a spread sheet and post it online to see what everyone thinks.. It can be seen here

Thanks
Dave

Also if this works I would like to see the Nassau page done the same way, its a mess alo

From what I have seen of the RRDB, it is organized by political subdivisions rather than services. I don't know whether you can get the admins to rearrange just one county into a different configuration.

Also, such a change will probably break all of the RRDB web import functions on various programs.

Software and database logistics aside, I think your suggestion is very valid and I would most certainly support a change.

I use RR to import my local databases into a 396, 996x2 and a PCR-1000. Re-arranging the like-services can become a big PITA!

To be completely honest about the way it is now, it is faster for me to import the entire Suffolk page to an excel spreadsheet, make my changes and copy/paste to arc330 than it is to use arc330 and the RR web service to download into the scanner. I just don't see any advantage to subscribing to a service that takes much more time and work to use.

And on a side note, try using butel to download the entire Suffolk page. hit check all, it will not do the last 7 entries. So now you need to download the remaining 7 and that puts them into a new system. Butel/Uniden only does 10 groups per system and 200 channels per group . I do realize suff fire does consist of more than 200 freqs and could only suggest creating 2 fire headings, west end and east end.

But in any event the info on the page is not following any kind of political subdivisions, for example

Patchogue Fire District lists 2 freqs under the heading Fire Districts
Patchogue police are listed under the heading Patchogue, Village of

political subdivisions would have all patchogue together

Smithtown Fire District lists 2 freqs under the heading Fire Districts
Smithtown police/code enf/highway are listed under Smithtown, Town of

political subdivisions would have all Smithtown together

Port Jefferson Fire District lists 2 freqs under the heading Fire Districts
Port Jefferson Constable and public works are under heading Port Jefferson, Village of

political subdivisions would have all Port Jefferson together
Information relating to a town/village and service are in two different spots...The information should be separated by towns or all the same services grouped together. not some of both...

Dave,
I have to agree. I was never a big fan on how the import feature worked with Butel and RR. I always thought it was just me who found a "better way" of sorting the info.

And I too have seen the fact that you run out of groups before you import all of the frequencies.

NOW - where I see the RR import shine is when you have trunk systems with multiple sites. That saves a bunch of time. Just make sure all of your settings. I have found UHF systems that import at 800Mhz Systems in the settings.

Dave, I'd love to compare notes on how you break up your groups in the systems.
I have my SCPD Conv system broken up by Fire Division (1-9) and Key 0 does Countywide Ops.

I would also like to see the same done on the Nassau County page. I live right on the Nassau Suffolk border lol.. As soon as I get a chance I will do a service sort and post what it could look like as I did with the Suffolk page...

Wow I had really thought there would have been more feedback on this.

Well, it seems like your complaint has been warmly received by the data base admin, who agreed to make the changes.

What more do you want ???
