Greetings from Georgia.....

Planning a business trip next week....flying into Chicago.

Driving to Mount Prospect.

Using a Uniden 250 in analog mode..........what should I try to program?
NW Chicago PD / FD....will I be able to receive Chicago from Mt. Prospect?

What county is Mount Prospect in?

Any suggestions would be appreciate.

I believe Mt. Prospect is dispatched on the NWCD (Northwest central dispatch) Astro trunked system. Its in Cook County.

You will be able to receive Chicago Police conventional most of the time. I can at times hear Chicago here in Milwaukee (~100 miles north).

If you have a moment, I would recommmend programming the Chicago Police trunked system. You may or may not be able to listen from Mt. Prospect but if you are able to hear, its usually some great action.

Are you flying into O'Hare or Midway? Please, try to enjoy Chicago during your visit. Its a great city with so much to offer. I can in particular offer some dining recommendations in the area (Bob Chinn's Crab Shack, Superdawg, Johnnies for Italian beef).

Mt. Prospect is indeed on the NWCD Astro system. While the BC250 will track it without the digital card (it has a 3600 baud data signal) it will not hear the audio which is all digital except for a few PW talkgroups in Elk Grove Village (next door).

There are a bunch of neighboring towns to listen to that are analog, try listings for Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Prospect Hts (Fire is by RED Center analog on 153.215 but PD is on the NWCD digital).

Here are a few nearby freqs of interest:

159.660 and 153.215 is RED Center, a large fire dispatch center in the north suburbs. They dispatch a dozen or so departments.

159.795 is FireCom, they dispatch Glenview and Wheeling.

154.340 is Des Plaines/Park Ridge Fire

154.265 is the local fire mutual aid channel callerd IFERN. It can also be heard on 470.4375, simulcast from DeComm.

154.130 is Chicago's "Main" fire office, used on the North side of town. 153.770 is "Englewood, used onthe south side, you can hear both from Mt. Prospect.

153.830 is Fireground, used by almost everyone in the area.

Police-wise:

155.475 is ISPERN, the local mutual aid channel. Chases, flash messages etc. It is simulcast on 470.3625.


470.4875 is Park Ridge PD, 155.745 is Des Plaines PD. 857.4875 is Wheeling PD. 470.7625 is Glenview and Northbrook, 470.6625 is the North Shore area.

O'Hare Airport has hundreds of channels in use there, search any band you wll find stuff there!
