I have just acquired a Uniden Washington CB SSB radio. It was my late father's radio, bought for him when he retired. I remember something about that it had been modified for power. Not sure what was done, and I haven't had time to investigate yet.

I was thinking of hooking this up in my shack. Where I live, I cannot have outdoor antennas. I was just looking for any suggestions as to what type antenna would be good in the atic for this radio?

Thanks, Any help would help.

get rid of it, no good karma in an illegal CB rig.

besides, if you can't put up an outdoor antenna, all you can do is receive static and transmit noise into your neighbor's TV. :( CB is so noisy and dead right now that it's pretty much not worth it.

Maxrad makes a 49" MLB2700 mobile antenna that can be mounted on a base adp kit they make. The ground elements are too short for CB but could be modified to a 9' length. The base mount kit comes with a PL-259 hookup. Can nail it to wood or clamp to round pipe. The factor here is how much vertical room do you have for an antenna. 4' would be the smallest vertical amount.

Well, I'm not sure what the mods were yet. Plus everybody has satellite dishes around here, so I don't see where the interference would come into play. Plus I don't see where karma has anything at all to do with it.

Not sure how much room I have. Need to climb up into the attic and check, but I think around six to eight feet max.

Dude, don't you think that rig has some sentimental value?

Not being able to use an outdoor antenna will limit him somewhat, but he does have options.

A magmount, placed on a plane of sheet metal and mounted to the ceiling joists might work.

A whip mounted upside down inside the shack might work, too.

I agree with Mischeif810 It doesnt matter what mods have been done to the radio its was owned by his father. If he wants to try to use it then if you can help then do so if you cant just read the post and move on . Jeffrey420 the washington base is a very good base radio I used one for 15 yrs before I switch to a modded RCI 2950. http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/IBA5.htm Here is a firestix version that might be what your looking for.Now your performance wont be as good as if it was outside. Hope this helps
