Austin, TX police said Thursday that they are leaning toward a ruling of suicide in the death of a middle school teacher and activist
whose body was found with his hands and legs bound and tape over his eyes.

Does anyone else find anything odd about about this scenario?
A suicide victim with his hands and legs bound and tape over his eyes???

I'll highlight some parts of the article -

===
Police identified Riad Hamad, 55, at a news conference Thursday and said the binding of his limbs and the placement of the tape was consistent with Hamad having done it himself.

Austin police homicide Sgt. Joe Chacon said family members told investigators that the Clint Small Jr. Middle School teacher had "several stressors" in his life and had talked about possibly killing himself. Police said that they think Hamad walked from his car to the lake, based on evidence they gathered at the scene.
===

So he's talked about suicide, and the tape is in locations that he could have done himself. Seems pretty clear to me - what part has you thinking otherwise?

Well, how would one go about this?

Tape your feet together. Easy.
Tape your hands (presumably the wrists) together.
Not terribly easy to unroll the tape around them. I guess it's do-able with time and effort.
Then unroll some tape with your bound hands and place on your eyes. I suppose.
Or maybe in some other order altogether...

The bigger question: Why go to all the trouble?
Sending some kind of message?
Evidently he was in no hurry to kill himself.

Just seems a bit fishy to me, that's all.
Also, it wouldn't be the first time evidence was staged
to point to a suicide rather than foul play by another.

I'd be interested to see what the autopsy discovers.

Insurance does not pay out for suicide. He had to make it look as much like murder as possible so his family could receive the life insurance.

She said in the e-mail that Hamad had recently been under investigation by the FBI — federal officials confirmed the investigation — and described him as "NOT a terrorist but a peace worker." Hamad was serving as an official for the Austin chapter of the >>>Palestine Children's Welfare Fund.<<<
FBI spokesman Erik Vasys said that Hamad had been a >>>"person of interest"<<< in a criminal investigation but that he could not elaborate. (emphasis mine)

If you're so naive as to believe it to be suicide you don't understand the above implications.

Stranger suicides have happened. I remember reading a book about LBJ,
I think the title was something like A Study in Illegitimate Power, where one of his
political enemies in TX did hisownself in by shooting hisownself in the head 5-6
time with a bolt action rifle.

That sounds like Texas politics... or Louisiana onla th' geeters gitum.

Slipping dodging sneaking creeping hiding out down the street
See me life shaking with every ho' I meet
Refried confusion is making itself clear
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here

I been in the right place but it must have been the wrong time
I'd have said the right thing but I must have used the wrong line
I'd have took the right road but I must have took a wrong turn
I'd have took the right move but I made it at the wrong time
I been on the trip road but I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a good place and I wonder what it's bad for

"hisownself"
Do you write damnyankee as one word too? (;->)
