My daughter and son-in-law live right on the Sullivan county line on 19E, across the street from them is literally Carter County. I had to ask them which county they lived in because I could not tell, the sign that welcomes you to Sullivan County is right across the street. If you travel to much farther south from them, the Sullivan county system reception degrades drastically.
Systems are designed to work in a specified area and they arrange the antennas to keep the signals in that area.
Five miles can make a difference believe it or not, especially in the mountains, they don't need their signals going to places that they don't need to cover.
It could also be your location is just in a bad spot for reception of this particular system.
I have a similar problem with a TACN site here in Cocke county. It is only 8 miles away from me, yet with a small mountain between me and the site, i barely am able to receive it. If I go down the road one mile, it is full scale.
