Sullivan IN Fire/EMS

Was listening to the old 210XLT and I picked up 155.895 and it was Sullivan IN Fire/EMS. I just have the standard antenna on the 210XLT.

How many kilowatts are they running---this came blasting in. LOL. Its the only VHF freq I can receive from Sullivan County.

Im about 20 air miles from the transmitter. Must be VERY powerful.

They might be using 155.895 as a paging frequency.You could check the safe-t talkgroups and see if Sullivan County has a County FireDispatch talkgroup assigned to them.The calls will go out on the paging frequency and all the other traffic will be on safe-t talkgroup assigned to them for the call.

No, this was not a call out there were conversations occurring. There are some tones preceding the conversations, though but man is this a powerful station LOL it came blasting in like it was local.

From the RR DB that shows a repeater on that FREQ at 50 Watts. It is probably on one of the TV towers in FARMERBURG.

That would explain a lot. That puts me about 10-15 air miles from this repeater and if its on one of those TV towers it might be as much as 1000 feet up. Explains why 50 W is providing such a good signal. Thank you for the info!!

this time of year, with the sun angle changing, VHF band becomes elevated in the mornings and evenings now....I was picking up AirEvac making a run to Vandalia, IL Hospital yesterday morning...I luv spring because of this very thing every year
