From the Summit County Coroner:
On 3/10/10 at approximately 14:55hrs an avalanche occurred in a backcountry area off US Highway 6 on the south side about 1 mile west of Arapahoe Basin. Apparently, three males were snowboarding. The two survivors were several feet behind and above the decedent when the avalanche occurred. The friends estimate that it took 20-25 minutes to get a cell phone signal and to reach the decedent whose upper torso was partially buried. The decedent is 20-years-old from Spring Grove Illinois and his name will be released tomorrow after his family has time to notify the rest of his family. The decedent worked for Breckenridge ski resort and had been living in Colorado since November. Cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.
