Preparations are getting underway for Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

I have a question regarding the 900 MHz Motorola trunked system that is shown in the database. I am at the dome now and do not hear that system on the air. The system was in use the last time I was here, but that was years ago. I do hear what may be Moto TRBO on the same 900 MHz frequencies that the system was licensed to, however.

Can anyone locally confirm that the system has been retired?

Looks like they modified the license for 13K6F3E, which is similar to the New England ICE [Not the FEDS] 900 TRS which was analog individual tower sites and has moved to MotoTRBO wide-area linked network

I've found at least four licenses for the Superdome:

ULS License - Business, 896-901/935-940 MHz, Trunked License - WPRW795 - LOUISIANA SUPERDOME
ULS License - Business, 896-901/935-940 MHz, Trunked License - WPFX893 - LOUISIANA SUPERDOME
ULS License - Industrial/Business Pool, Conventional License - WQIJ993 - LOUISIANA SUPERDOME
ULS License - Industrial/Business Pool, Trunked License - WQOM705 - LOUISIANA SUPERDOME

The last license indicates that a UHF NXDN trunked system is in use - you might want to check that out.

The 13K6F3E emission designator should be analog voice, but who knows if they've changed to another mode.

Regarding NFL freqs: Most of these end up being encrypted usage most of the time. Actual team comms are 99% encrypted.

Hey Chris, have the white choppers started flying there yet? (Kinda ironic back in the day we all made fun of the "black choppers" buzzing you, when now its the white ones that are the ones flying right over your head with armed guys in the doors." Of course we had them, and the A-10's buzzing us here in Indy last year.... Not sure what you are gonna use an "Warthog" for in a metro area, unless you are gonna kill whole blocks, not just a nut in a van with a bomb??)

Yes the DHS helicopter OMAHA 4 was hovering over the dome for an extended period checking live video feeds. Lots of Coast Guard Dolphins transitioning the dome area, as well as a few Blackhawks over the last few days.

In regards to my original question, I can say without hesitation that the Motorola 900 MHz trunked system in the database is no longer on the air. The 900 MHz frequencies listed in the links earlier in the thread have what sounds like Moto TRBO digital. There is no constant control channel on any of them that I can hear.

Team Comms [NFL] ie the QB/DEF headsets have always been Enc in the analog days when each team was assigned two frequencies. Now that they moved to TRBO, no one has validated that it's still ENC Where now each Stadium has two frequencies vs each Team. I have not spent the time to experiment with DSD yet, so maybe next year an on-site in Foxboro will determine ENC or CLR

Although this may not count as 100% confirmation, I was told by someone with the NFL frequency coordination that they are indeed encrypted TRBO. And my source does know the difference between digital and encrypted.

Encrypted trbo has only 30000 or so combinations so you could ignore the stupid football game and try to descramble it. Now I bet those radios used to relay what pass to make or who to throw the ball to might use DES or AES so you'd never hear em.

So how do you decode the TRBO to get to the encryption? No scanner can decode TRBO. I've heard computer aided program could help but it wouldn't for me as I'm out and about and couldnt use a computer.

Something you can listen to without a PC hooked to your scanner, the NFL Engineering repeater at the Superdome is up and running on 463.8375, D223. You may hear me and my crew using it over the next week, setting up cable and equipment for the international broadcasters covering the game.CBS Network is on a different set of frequencies, which I don't have yet.

Also, media has been saying there is a NORAD exercise above New Orleans this morning. The only thing I've caught so far is some comms on 298.5 MHz. Not sure if related to the exercise or not...
