While I was at work the other day, the Sussex County mobile command post was parked at my station.

I took a few minutes to look inside and snap some pics.

The console for 800 radios.

UHF and EDACS radio for Ocean City.

Hand out portables.

Looks good. Are the ham radios used for listening only? Or are they used to transmit?

Looks like the hams should be ashamed at the way the wiring is under the radio.

Now you know why many departments don't want them around. Sloppy work, poor habits and not use to the way public safety operates.

Am I picking on the hams in general, not normally. I just can't imagine accepting an installation like that.

Been in the public safety communications field for over 45 years now and been a ham radio operator just as long. There is no excuse for that install.

This mobile CP is often used at events where hams work along side of the public safety guys. Like the world famous "Punkin' Chunkin'". I believe the amateur radios were about to be remounted... I'll ask one of the comms guys when I see him next.
