Sussex County ?

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I’ve been lurking for years! So I finally upgraded to a Motorola xts2500 I’ve always used the cheap Chinese radios before. Can I rx Sussex Sheriff dept with my Motorola? Or vsp? I have Sussex fire, surry sheriff dept and surry fire & rescue.

Last I checked, Sussex Co Sheriff runs full time encryption. VSP currently is still in the clear. Sussex County is on the prison's P25 Phase 2. That's one big jump from CCR to a Motorola. I hope you are familiar with Motorola and programming. That's about all I got, I live in Virginia Beach. I'm sure someone with better knowledge will pipe up soon and can help you a bit better than I.

Surry is upgrading to TDMA, an xts2500 wont work on the new system unless the talkgroups are FDMA. You'll probably need a Motorola APX or Harris XG series once they switch over. Sussex sheriff is fully encrypted, Waverly/Wakefield pd mobiles are encrypted, but dispatch is in the clear.

Waverly's Police Department was absorbed by the Sussex Co. SO in 2021. I don't believe Wakefield has it's own department anymore either.

That’s correct, I have Sussex fire, surry fire, surry sheriff dept in my radio, I was trying to figure out vsp. I handle most of the water systems in surry and Sussex counties and should like to keep up with fires and wrecks.

VSP is Phase I, so the XTS2500 should be able to receive it.
