Hi I just purchased a Radioshack Pro-95 dual trunking scanner and now live in Rehoboth Beach. I used to live in PA where PD's dont use trunked radios and I could pick up everything, but I tried to program all the different frequencies and I can pick up a signal and the proper talkgroup IDs come up (like DSP dispatch, ect) but for some reason it sounds like digital static. I know some of these are not encrypted so it cant be that... I'm I doing something wrong???

Hello,
You are doing nothing wrong but....your scanner won't decode the digital siganls that the states radio system uses on all trunked freq's.

Basically you need a digital trunking scanner but don't just run out and buy any scanner, times are a changing in trunked radio land and MANY of today's $400-500 digital trunking scanners will not work on the new delaware system that will come online in the next 12-18 months.

Sorry to say you are limited to only a handfull of local freq's concerning FD's and few PD's

During the weeekends I spend down in Dewey I can receive the Ocean City radio system with a mag mount antenna on my truck and a good bit on SO.NJ (Cape May County) VHF and NJSP south Trunked system.

Take a look here for the conventional freq's you can receive that originate from Sussex co.

The first thing is you will not get the Delaware trunked system on a Pro-95. The Delaware system is Digital and needs a Pro-96 or similar digital radio to receive these. You can get the Fire and EMS frequencies on the repeater Freq . that are in use in Sussex and othe counties in DE. You can get Ocean City Maryland on the Pro-95 without any problem in Rehoboth Beach. There are also Rehoboth PD freqs. on the high band 155 mh that are in use for parking inforcement etc. You can get the Fire and EMS repeater freq. on this site just go to Sussex on the main DE page. If you need more e-mail me.

Does anyone have a list of the different handles that each department uses to ID themselves when talking on SUSCOM?

First there is a way you can listen to DSP in Sussex (dispatch only)
Program a bank with ocean city freqs and use the following Talk group
DEC 642 or AFS 05-002 for Delaware State Police Sussex Dispatch
or just include the talk group in Ocean City bank. Ocean City repeats the Sussex DSP as well as several other PDS (see the RR database)
I have a list of the IDs someplace when I find it I will Post.

Here is a listing I have in ARC250 for Sussex PD's. Hopefully the number assignments have not changed:

OCEAN VIEW 936
GEORGETOWN 908
LEWES 947
BETHANY 912
DEWEY BEACH 989
S BETHANY 928
MILLSBORO 921
MILTON 911
LAUREL 918

This may not include every PD. Bare in mind that Rehoboth and Seaford have their own dispatch centers and usually don't go through DSP.

Hope this helps.

Maybe I am missing something but I don't see any listing that way.
Anyone give me some help with this?

Thanks for the info Dave. I have Ocean City programed and included 05-002 for DSP, however when it picks up it's barely audible. In addition there really isn't much traffic on it, I would think as a dispatch tg there would be a bunch more traffic.
