Swap antennas without turning off scanner?

I've always wondered if it's safe to switch antennas with the scanner still powered on?

Would it make a difference if you were swapping between ducky antennas or say an outside external antenna?

#2: Only if there is a thunderstorm overhead!

Only hurts if you change antennas while transmitting, which of course...scanners can't do.

Yes CLB, it only hurts for a little while. We call that the onosecond, that tiny fraction of a second it takes to realize "ono, I did something wrong". Then the pain subsides and as the magic smoke escapes sadness sets in during the following omisecond. That "oh my" interval lasts a little longer, it takes a bit more thought to understand that the smoke they put in at the factory is gone and there's no way to get it back in and to make matters worse no replacement smoke is sold and any old smoke won't do. C'mon guy, stop scratching your head, everybody knows that nothing works without that magic smoke!

BTW, after reading your statement of the obvious I've come to realize that what Larry the cable guy says about Goose Creek South Carolina is true. There IS something in the water and it has something to do with a goose.

Like when I accidentally connected an FMD to the coax that went to an active multicoupler instead of the one that went directly to the antenna--Then keyed up.

The multicoupler smelled funny inside

Now I have lots of red tape and green tape to mark the coax

Hmmm, a bit of food for thought. Reminds me of a bread commercial from years gone by, it builds strong bodies twelve different ways. Then there is that "maybe", you just might grow up to be another Ron White! (;->)
