As long as you get a good charger you will be good to go. Quick chargers that are sold in most stores will ruin batteries fairly quickly.
I hardly ever use some of the features on the Maha as it keeps the batteries in good condition. I charge my AA batteries anywhere from 500ma to 800ma, I might use 1000ma if I need some batteries fairly soon, AAA 300ma to 400ma, that I use in other devices. Out of all the AA's I have tried I find the Panasonic Eneloops Pro are my best performers and I use them almost exclusively in my scanners now. They cost a little more, but in the long run it is worth it.

I am still in the research phase, but I am starting to heavily lean towards the Ambien Weather BC 2000. Another member suggested it to me awhile back and now that I have looked it up some, it has many positive reviews. I hear you on the ruining of batteries aspect, but the Energizer charger is not my long term solution by any means. Just needed something to get me by to avoid in scanner charging.

I do have a dumb question.....

Does it matter what battery mAh capacity one uses with a scanner as far as possibly causing damage to the scanner, etc?

For example, HP2 comes with 2300 mAh batteries can go with 2550 mAh batteries with no worries?

Also I have read Amazon's Basics are basically re-branded Eneloops....any truth to that?

You should have no issues using 2550mah batteries. As far as the Amazon Basics, I have no idea how they are, never used them, maybe someone else can shed some light on them.

I'm using the low-self discharge Amazon Basics in several units. No problems with charging or run time. No idea, though, on who makes them for Amazon.

Been looking at those myself....do you own a HP by chance and if so, how do they fit in the battery compartment? Read they are fat...

I own both the HP-1 & HP-2. No problem using the batteries in them. However, they do seem a tad "fatter", larger, whatever term you want, and are a bit of a squeeze in one of my digital cameras. Usable by all means, but they are a sort of sng fit in the camera; won't fall out effortlessly when the battery cover is open. The Imedion LSD batteries are similar, slightly bigger around than a standard AA.

Sounds good. Thanks!
