Hi,

I imagine many of you folks might be familiar with this:

Would like to replace a bunch of the typical wall warts in house.
They are the typical switching types.

Would like to find true linear wall warts to replace them with.

Hopefully something not "much" larger, and not too expensive.
A few different voltages involved.

I looked at Amazon, and they all seem to be switch mode types, or they just don't
say.

Any suggestions as to Brand(s) and Models would be appreciated.

Too old now to build or modify anything; would just like to
purchase a plug in linear type, admittedly probably a bit bigger due to the transformer that would now be involved, and
just plug it in as a simple replacement.

Thanks,
Bob

You will probably have a difficult time finding new wall warts with linear power supplies. "Everybody" wants small, light wall warts that don't consume much energy.

Well if you need 13.8 volts @ 1.5 amps, you can’t beat the Motorola 2580162R01 wall wart. Long discontinued, it was the wall wart for the MTS2000 Jedi series back in the early 90’s. Plenty for sale on E-Bay.

why not replace all those wall warts with a single 30 amp astron power supply. that way you will free up outlets for other things.

In my “shack” I do use a 30 amp Astron switcher for all my devices. But I’ve got chargers all over the house that need their own wall wart.

I have been saving linear wall warts whenever I toss any old gear. That said, the internal regulators and filters eventually fail. I am wondering about my ancient Motorola RIB wall wart and some troubles programming certain radios.

You might want to check out some surplus electronics catalogs. Some have NOS for various voltages. You might have to change the connector or splice the cable from switcher ones you are replacing.

Not all devices that need wall warts can use 12 volts. To get from a nominal 12 volts to 5 volts for charging cell phones, tablets, cameras, etc., that are charged through a USB cable, you'll need to drop the voltage. Using a linear voltage regulator is one possible way to do this, but they have some inefficiency.

You can find circa late 90's to early 2000's linear Radio shack wall wart pwr supplies on Ebay. I just got one for my Sangean909/RS DX398 and it made a world of difference. I had just bought a brand new switcher for it but it was nothing but rfi city.

Had same issue with my "made for amateur radio" 25 amp switcher I attempted to use with my new IC705. It was not as bad as the Sangean switcher but still had to get a Astron 35m as some bands were unusable.
