• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Syntor X9000 Help Needed...

Any Motorola RSS gurus around ?? I have the legitimate RSS for the Syntor X9000 radios.. It has worked great for years programming my radios on a Compaq Contura PC (DOS, Slow processor, DB9 port)..
I now refuses to run.. I get a "Runtime error 200 at 36A3:04D5" error..
Any Ideas?

From what I remember, you have to make sure the processor speed is no faster than 33MHZ, 25 MHZ is even better. I also found this error is more common using the "HAM" version software.

Same computer, same software install, no changes other than the passage of time?

Try rolling back the clock on the PC to 20 years ago.

If that doesn't do it, you may have electronic degradation in the PC components (drying out capacitors, most likely) that are causing issues.
People forget that a computer is still an electronic device and is susceptible to the problems that plague electronics. Components age, dry out, change value, and eventually will be out of spec to the point that they cause errors or failures to function.

If there has been any changes of OTHER programs, they may have changed the available RAM space when running the CHPROG or RDPROG programs.
Try running the MEMMAKER program that comes with DOS and it will give you the option of moving some stuff that loads on bootup.
Moves things to higher memory space.
I have run into that before.
You can also use a TEXT editor, and edit your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXT.BAT files to take up less space.
Things like sound or CD drivers you won't need while running the SYNTOR RSS.
If there are CD drivers, or other things, just start the line they are on with REM and a space.
They will still be there, but won't load and take up memory.
Once you are done, you can either edit again to remove the REM lines.
REM is for remark.
I have had to do this in the past with RADMBL.
What I did was make copies of the CONFIG.SYS called CONFIG.RAD and CONFIG.ORI (original) then just use the one that is
needed at the time.

I have found when installing some RSS, probably SABER or SPECTRA, that the files were set with ARCHIVE or READ ONLY attribute bits set and when running the RSS, the program wanted to set some bit in another file and could not.

That brings back memories! Long forgotten ones of having to try to squeeze every last bit of available RAM space out by editing those files!

Thanks for the bad memory!
Yeah, those TSR programs in DOS would gobble up RAM and create headaches. I wasted enough of my life troubleshooting DOS as I do now on the 'Net. The trick is to write batch files that unloaded TSR's from RAM when you exit a program. I have forgotten all how to do that stuff.

TSR= Terminate and Stay Resident... Halt and Catch Fire......
