Hi, I've got a TRX-1 scanner and have recently started using it. The last time I used it was during the May riots on Lake Street. It worked great, lots of police traffic. Now, even after updating the databases for the scanner, I'm getting very few hits on signals. Have there been any changes to the systems that may affect reception for scanners? The TRX-1 has been able to handle trunked systems pretty well in the past. Right now, all I seem to get is an occasional Fire dispatch or a channel from Brooklyn Center.

Thanks for any info.

I found out around June, Minneapolis switched over to Armer and simulcast... The TRX-1 doesn't have that capability... bummer...

Minneapolis has been on ARMER and uses Simulcast for a very long time. Whoever gave you information that some kind of change-over happened in June, gave you some bad information. That said, Hennepin Law Enforcement did go all encrypted recently, but not Minneapolis - I still hear them on Broadcastify most every night.

I don't know much about your model scanner, but I'd bet a few bucks the programming is messed up or there is a setting or two that is incorrect.

If you heard the riots on Lake Street in May, you should be able to hear things now.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. I'll have to check in to the programming and verify what might be going on.

I know nothing about the TRX1- but reviewing the specs it is more than capable of monitoring ARMER. Nothing has been changed on the system to keep it from being heard. A few things that make The Metro a bit difficult to monitor is the number of overlapping systems. City Center, Minneapolis, Hennepin East, Hennepin West, Anoka, Ramsey all have overlapping coverage and each system has the ability to carry different talkgroups. Depending on what exactly you are looking to hear will dictate what sites to monitor. A large amount of Law enforcement in Hennepin County has moved encryption- All Hennepin 911 Law Mains an most Car to car , St. Louis Park Law main and Car to Car, Eden Prairie and Edina car to car. More counties in the Metro are in the process of moving to encryption on the law mains.
