Too bad the other thread dribbled into a flamefest - especially when no legit answer was given to a legit question. At one time, there was a Trunked Radio System ID list. I believe it was maintained by someone named Lindsay (something or other). I was one of the first, if not THE first contributors to that list. At the time, there were many more trunked systems in my area than there are today.

That list was so successful, control frequencies were added (I don't THINK they were part of the original data), then it grew some more, and was eventually turned into a web site called www.trunkedradio.net or something like that. It grew to add even more system info such as talkgroups and an interactive search engine. Unfortunately, as the database grew, it somehow lost the original intent - to provide a list of system IDs. Later, this web site changed its name to www.radioreference.com or something similar

Unfortunately, the Trunked System ID list never was brought back to life, and you can only run queries based on system ID or location, and cannot print out a list like the one that fathered this site.

I wish you could since it would be great for travelling and you could look up System IDS on the fly. Most people still have no mobile internet access, so the interactive site isn't useful.

So, AFAIK, NO, there is no remaining Trunked System ID list as there once was, but I sure wish it could be resurrected. :D I know someone who has a database as good as the one on this site. Maybe he can provide a print-able list of system IDs as an option.

I thought me and several others did answer Cobra_Commander's question if that's what you mean....

Maybe.

Loumaag stated that "He is asking if there is, on the Internet, a list of the Motorola System ID’s <snip>", and that was the basis for my above post.

So, if Don meant search system info on a single ID, yes, your answer is correct. If he meant what Lou said, your answer is not correct, as the RR database will NOT give you a list of system IDs in its current configuration. If I'm not correct on that point, please provide a link to the list. (and don't give me a search box, as that is not a list)

As for the validity of the question, I have several System IDs I've monitored that are not in the RR database. I wish I knew where they were coming from. All I know is 'Eastern USA'. Granted, the list I would like to see return would not solve that question, but I would have listened to those systems more to determine the source more than I did had I known they were not in the RR database. Having a list of system IDs would have told me it is unknown.

Yes, you did - almost (see below). I consider myself to be sitting corrected anyway. :D All my comments in my last post apply, only reversed. There are two possible interpretations of his question - yours and Kikito's. Only Don knows which he meant.

BUT, your answer was no, it does not exist. In reality, it used to. I'm sure there are still copies of that list floating around, outdated as they are. So, the answer isn't an absolute yes or no. My answer was 'it used to', not 'no'.

Well, here's the exact request from Cobra:

Is there anywere on the internet to go to look up trunking system id #'s at?

I guess from the get-go we've all been speculating about what he's asking....

and honestly at this point I'm starting to feel really dumb about all the "fuss" we're all putting into this since the Cobra guy haven't even had the courtesy yet to reply and clarify what he wants or to say thanks for the help.

Like someone pointed out in the locked thread, maybe he's rolling on the floor laughing as we speak while he watches everyone runnning in circles trying to help or pissed off at him for asking stupid questions....

this is not the first time....

Okay!

That is what I said, but I guess if you stop reading before you get to the part where I said it used but doesn't anymore... :!:

The list I was referring to pre-dates the TRN and the SE Trunked Radio sites. It could have been a Lindsay list, but it was before I was involved or submitting (which I started when it was still the SE Trunked Radio site) which is about the time the list disappeared. (Early to mid-90's)

So, are you looking for? A list or a way to find info on a known System ID?
(either way, you should now have your answer)

Lou, I guess I lumpped all of that in with the 'Motorola list' you were talking about. To my knowledge, Motorola never listed their trunked systems (and I am VERY familiar with Motorola).

GE used to. I don't know if they still do or not, but it was on a web site.

The System ID list ran until about 2000, I think. It started back, well, it had to be around the mid-90s at least. I don't have emails from that far back readily accessible (they are archived), but I did see one in 99 when I was helping him eliminate the dups. Does this tag look familiar?

See the Southeast US Trunked Radio Information Homepage!
http://web2.airmail.net/lblant1/trunked.htm

I didn't remember the SE page until you brought it up.

I know. It's the old URL of this web site 5 years ago :!:
(Before it had its own domain, before the name change, etc)

I was asking lou if it looked familiar. It used to appear at the bottom of Lindsay's posts. 8) It's the web site he was talking about in his posts.

Kitko, I was looking for the link to that site when I got the email about the latest posts to the thread

Joe, yes I remember the link. And was going to try and find the archive that Kitko found.

The list on the Archive is slightly different (and bigger) than the one I remember, but I am getting old and it sure looks close to what I remember.

I have already sent Don a PM apologizing for my post.

He probably is just happy that we all feel bad for shooting from the hip.
