Prolly means the 5 buttons across the top of the display which is on both the 5 and 7 series heads. The HCN1073 is a Spectra head, too, but IIRC, it works only on the conventional models and some of the trunking models, and has to be a 1073 D or E. If the software gives you an "advanced" option, it's looking for an A7 head. For the 9000 head, you should see an option for "s9000e." If it doesn't give you that option, it's a combination of firmware, software, and model number. Bit banging can convince the radio it has the proper model number for the head you want to apply, but that still depends on just which firmware that particular radio has and whether that particular firmware will allow itself to be bit banged to accept the head in question. If it won't accept talkgroups or zones with its current firmware, it'll probably never accept the 9000 head, although there were some that would accept a 9000 head in all conventional configurations but not in trunked configurations.
Clear as mud, huh?
