Ive had my 396 for two wweks now and Im still learning many new things. I would like to know how do you determine what system a jurisdiction is operating on.
I guess what Im trying to say is that out of the list you have to choose in the 396 for systems. How do you match them up to what your read from the database in radioreference.......

Well as for trunked systems they are all IDed at the very top. Looks like this.

System Name: Knox County
Location: Knoxville, TN
County: Knox
System Type: Motorola Type II Smartnet
System Voice: Analog
Sysid: 161C

Now the red is the type of system. So in this case you would use Motorola Type II. The frequesncies below that indicate it is a 800 Mhz system. So this is a standard system. That's really all there is to it. I'm sure others will add more, but I hope this is easy and helpful. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. If you want more on Motorola trunking here is a link to a section on radio reference that explains trunking terms.
