T4WIN-some TGs showing up as DIGITAL on EDACS

Tonight for the first time I noticed some talkgroups showing up as DIGITAL (EDACS 9600 bps, analog/ProVoice). I've never heard any
ProVoice as of yet nor could I pick it up tonight just tuning thru the frequencies, not trunking, while that TG was active. I heard nothing
while monitoring that TG (OPS-1, TG577). What's even more strange
is that specific TG is adding an additonal LCN (see screenshot) to the bottom of my list of 16. There were about 4 different radio ID's on TG 577, all showing up as Digital. I guess the county is using some new type of encryption, or they have a new frequency that I'm not aware of (not published) in the trunking system.

This has me scratching my head, and worrying that more is to come. (Digital).

I'm not sure why it is happening in your specific case, but I can tell you that LCN 31 (or 1F hex) is actually a system status message for a Call Denial. If a radio attempts to initiate a call and is disallowed for some reason by the system, it will show the caller and target ID on LCN 31 (or 1F).

That's interesting. I'm also getting LCN 28 and 30.

I just caught a new unlisted TG (610) in LCN10 that was showing digital as well. Didn't have time to do a screen capture.

I should have included these in the first post:

Status LCNs
00/00 CW ID
1A/26 Downlink
1B/27 Reserved
1C/28 Convert to Callee
1D/29 Queued Call
1E/30 System Busy
1F/31 Denied Call

00 may not really be CW ID, based on my experience.
26 and 27 are not something I can explain (hopefully someone else can!)

Thanks Mark. I thought that I'd stumbled onto some new digital modes here on this system. I've actually never seen any show up as digital before. And it's the same talkgroup and a handful of radio IDs. At 3AM I was thinking it was an undercover sting operation that I was seeing show up as digital. Guess it's nothing after all.

Thanks for the list of status LCNs.

One of the Tools menu items will add the standard EDACS LCNs for queue and busy calls. I thought folks would like to see this information alongside the channel activity. Instead the reaction has been "No!" we don't want that there. I guess the reason is that these LCNs are not actual channels (which makes sense). Future versions of T4Win and UniTrunker will suppress these LCNs from appearing in the call activity window.

It was odd seeing 'digital' appear in the TYPE column. That is actually the first time I've seen it and I've been running T4WIN for months on this system. It didn't just pop up momentarily either. It would stay for several seconds at a time, randomly in time span, and other Radio ID's would appear, on the same TG, as if there were 4 or so other units using OPS 1. I could not hear them while scanning conventionally or while monitoring TG 577 while trunking. I know what ProVoice sounds like and I have yet to hear it being used on this system. Forgive my apparent ignorance fellas, I'm trying to learn as much about this (T4WIN, etc) as I can! :) Last night from 3-4 AM is the only time I have seen this occurance. On numerous occasions daily I see 'phone' and 'individual' but this morning was the first time I've ever seen 'digital'.

Rick, I've looked in the TOOLS menu for a way to add the standard EDACS LCNs for queue and busy calls. I'm running version 0.94.0.0.
Selecting 'Add EDACS queues' seems to have no affect. I actually would like it if that option worked.

Hi! I work on large EDACS system. So i can explained of these LCN features.

1A/26 Downlink
1B/27 Reserved
1C/28 Convert to Callee
1D/29 Queued Call
1E/30 System Busy
1F/31 Denied Call

LCN 26, the Downlink is the feature for the interface that let you have multi-sites communications.
LCN 27, not use on our system, so don't know.
LCN 28, the Convert to Callee will let you know that two radios on the same group tried to communicate at the same time.
LCN 29, The Queued Call let you know that the the radio is in a waiting mode to get the first next free channel.
LCN 30, The System Busy let you know that there is no more place in the Queued mode.
LCN 31, The Denied Call let you know that the unit is not allowed on this system.

Hope it will help some people.

Thank you very much for the information!

Update..I haven't heard or seen any Digital indications since that night, and I monitor this system with T4Win pretty much 24/7.

I see this fairly often (daily for sure) on the Albuquerque PS System. Am I to assume this means there are that many unauthorized radios attempting to access the system or am I misunderstanding this?

Thanks.

Nope, I think you understand it just fine. Lots of people in those areas that are EDACS and ProVoice have invested in radios that can be programmed to monitor the sytem (like LPE's etc.). It is apparent that not all of these radios have been transmit disabled.
