I do not understand why people stick with M, and tippy-toe non-affiliate trunking scan non-sense. Just use a BK radio or Harris for crying out loud. Heck, BK will even give you tech support. M is awesome, but not for Rx only monitoring trunking systems.
I don’t like cheap garbage radios and I don’t tippy-toe anything. They work great and blow any scanner or radio away in sound quality.

Bendix/King/Relm doesn't have the breadth or depth of inexpensive accessories and rests on its laurels of their one hit wonder, avionics and FPP federal single band radios. They're klunky, and there aren't many people out there super familiar with how they work at a granular level.

Motorola is the slutty girl you just can't really trust. Looks good, does all kinds of stuff, all the people you wish you were has her, there's a *ton* of people that's experimented with her and knows how to make her do anything you want (if you can get into their private clubs lol) As a result, you can find all their cast offs relatively cheaply, a TON of people make trinkets for her, and you are using a subscriber unit that was built from the ground up to be part of the ecosystem you want to monitor.

.... however

MSI is in their death throes. The lawyers have finally run the biggest monolithic cash cow into the dirt, with cellular happily applying the remaining nails into their coffin. They literally have no idea how to improve, much less retain, market share, and think they have the lock on public safety and federal verticals, so, oh well.

This would be a *great* time for Harris to put one in them, but they are just as dumb as motorola solutions. Innovating by finding new tech, buying the company, then shelving it won't work anymore, and all it will take is a lone, hungry Pac Rim manufacturer to take all their lunches away from them. An all band, WIDE band multimode portable built to industrial grade isn't unobtanium now. You'd think Hytera would be a wakeup call, but no, they are all too busy slapping each other on the back thinking they won.

Baofeng is STILL sending non FCC type accepted products by the pallet into the US. AND making bank. And, not caring. (Meanwhile Moto's huge plan moving forward is to slowly ease the cell dick into public safety by making them a cell phone that looks like a fancy portable radio. You'll never convince me that APX NExt isn't zello in a familiar 'police walkie talkie' case, with a vestigial LMR radio deck tossed in as an afterthought.)

So, that's why people are still clutching at the wisps of smoke that remain of the once proud Motorola. Galvin has been rolling in his grave for so long now the box is shiny!

That’s all methed up man. I’ll pray for your sobriety.
