• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

TAIT friendly dealer to buy yourself toys

Hi all.

My name is Alex, I'm from Canala (Toronto), but I also live in the USA (Delaware). I'm new here, although I've been reading RR for many years, but now there's a reason to register.

I am looking for a TAIT dealer in the USA or Canada who would be friendly to me. Years go by; I'm not young, and now I have some money to play with TP9800, and, maybe, TB7300.

I tried to write requests to TAIT dealers, but they were all ignored. It looks like they are focused on huge federal programs, government orders, etc.

And I would like to call myself to buy these toys at some special price, ham-friendly, or, which is generally ideal, as a demo unit.

Delivery to the USA, payment via ACH, bank transfer, or PayPal USA or Canada account If it needs to be a business, I can ask a friend who is a small radio dealer. But he and his circle do not have access to TAIT.

Any input will be appreciated. Please respond here or via PM.

This might be the problem. I think the economics are backwards.

If they've got big contracts, they can afford to offer them a lower markup per-radio. Making numbers up out of thin air, let's say they have a city buying 500 TP9800s. If they make $20 markup per radio, that yields them $10k profit.

What incentive would they have to offer an even lower price to sell a single radio?

I'm sure there are dealers that would be happy to sell Tait radios to individuals, but if you lead with expecting a ham discount (or a demo unit of a radio that was just released), you're probably not going to get many bites.

Both replies are absolutely spot on here, be prepared to pay 100% manufacture's list price. There is zero incentive to provide you any discounts when you're are only buying a single radio.

Before I retired I did business with W/S Electronics in Xenia, OH. Always had good service from them.

I was just looking at the website and it stated "Agency / Business " Not available for personal use, guess I'll keep my BKR radio.

They sell to a lot of hams, including me. Fill out the quote, they will get back to you.
