I'm going to Vegas in a couple days and was wondering if I should take the Uniden 436 with me. Would I hear anything interesting or is most everything encrypted?

Opensky so its not monitorable
There are VHF police frequencies and the fire department is Trunked.
Look up Clark County. You can try with online listening....;)
Have fun and enjoy the cheap buffets and get a In N Out Burger!

i would at least bring an analog trunking scanner. if you got a scanner with the discriminator tapped you could hook it up to the line in jack on a computer running the dsd program and hear one of the few casinos with a trbo system.

True, but LVMPD is in the process of migrating to a P25 Phase II system that is currently mostly in the clear. So import the LVMPD P25 system and you will hear most of the main dispatch traffic. I just had my 536 with me this past weekend and it worked great there...

It's been more than five years, but I always liked to spend a few hours up high in the Airport parking facility. McCarran International Airport is high on my list of favs, as it is extremely busy and has intersecting active runways. Unless something has changed, the frequencies are/were all analog, no fancy scanner needed.

I have taken my 436 to a hotel three times now and just make sure it's database is up to date and use the zip code programming to get started. I take my laptop with me too in case I want to make my own favorites list for the area.

By all means take the 436HP. You will hear all kinds of stuff. I have had my 436HP there twice in last few months. Heard LVMPD P25 a lot, lots of Clark County fire/EMS, McCarren Airport, and my favorite, the multitude of trunking sites at all the hotels. My wife and I stay at the Monte Carlo. I program in all the casino sites in that area, and night and day, you hear the casino floor people going to give payouts, security being summoned to kick someone out of the casino, security to watch so and so at table #, and if you want, all the other stuff going on at the hotels.
Of course, I don't listen to the scanner all the time, too busy playing Blackjack, going to a show, eating out. That's why I bring my laptop with Butel software for logging. Usually bring RS center loaded antenna or RH77 for VHF and UHF, and RS-800 antenna for 800 Mhz trunking.
Again, bring that 436HP, you will love it. Mine works great there.
