• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What type of scanner are you using? Do you know if it supports LTR? We need some more details to answer your question.

Sorry, so many groups/forums/threads, you're right, I assumed too much here.
Mine is the Uniden BC246T, it supports LTRs and I'd like to try scanning a trunked system and the only one in my area is the one I cited, but no talk groups are available (here at least). I suppose I could contact the Blue Earth Co. sheriff, but quite honestly I'm sorta not exactly hip as to how law enforcement typically views the scannist's hobby. I DO know that in MN, its a crime to have one in a vehicle, so that's a bit of a hint I suppose, eh?

I have been trunktracking only a few months now. But one of the first things I learned is that LTR systems are special. The channels MUST be programed in the EXACT order they are given. They MUST be programmed at the start of the bank (ie 401, 403, 405, ect). And there is NO control channel. I read somewhere that many are on odd (as oppossed to even) channels. I've seen some posted here like 1, 2, 4, 7. The ones that have been tested by users here are marked as confirmed.

And a PS on talk groups, chances are if it's LTR, it's a business system. Once you get the system programmed, you can find the talk groups and post them here. They don't have to be specific if you don't know it. It can be given as "1-01-030 plumbing 1-04-060 electricians". And actually when submiting the info, the want the hyphen deleted.

Hopefully your system is conventional LTR and not Passport (untrackable by scanner). Do you hear the LTR key ups every 10 seconds (regular LTR) or every 1-5 seconds (passport). If it is conventional then continue...

It is a lot easier if you use the ARC246 software but since there is only three freqs it shouldn't be bad.

First listen conventionally to be sure there is traffic. make a note of the busiest frequency.
Next, program a new system and put that frequency in as LCN 1, make sure you have chosen search mode under "edit system options". Let the scanner run for a bit and look at the display if you hear traffic. If you do and see LTR type IDs then that frequency is in the right location. If not then reprogram the system and make the LCN 2. Continue as necessary until you get the correct LCN.
How busy the system is will tell how difficult the remainder are to figure out. You have to add the second then third LCN. If you are lucky and they did 1, 2, 3 it will be simple.

An alternate is to find someone with a radio shack scanner that does LTR and is made by GRE. They do not require the frequencies to be in LCN. Look at the IDs that pop up and it will show the Home LCN.
