• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a Pro-95 and listen to a Motorola Type 2 system. The City often patches TGs together such as Baker-1 and Baker-3. A policeman's walkie talkie will get the same traffic on both TGs because it is patched. But on my scanner I will hear the traffic on one of the two TGs. Why is that and can anything be done to my Pro-95 or other scanners to get the traffic on both TG ids? I have done searches many times and the traffic is only going out on one TG. Thanks for any insight!

When talkgroups are patched, one of the patched talkgroups become a "supergroup". A message is transmitted over the control channel telling all radios that are on any of the patched talkgroups to use the supergroup.

As an example, Talkgroup 16 is patched into talkgroup 32. In this case talkgroup 32 becomes the "supergroup" and all radios that are set to use either talkgroup will use talkgroup 32. You will hear no traffic on talkgroup 16 while the patch is in place.

Thank you for the logical reply. I knew that there were not two or more frequencies of the same radio traffic being used but never thought about the super talkgroup idea. Too bad our scanners can not also decode that info.

All the scanner looks for is the channel grant or grant updates, and displays that talkgroup. They don't show when a patch is present, at least not the current versions.

Next to a scanner...
The BC780 will show patches in EDACS systems - I have had mine beep and flash patchID, display all of the TGIDs that were patched, and listened to the audio from the "Supergroup". I have never had it happen on a moto system, so I think it just stops on one of the groups, like you said.
