Sacramento PD is where he lives. Go to the database, as they're all updated recently. The Sacramento Sheriff's Dept. is the County Sheriff. I've been submitting TGs to admin to update and there were lots before as well, so there should be lots for him to listen to.

For that area (midtown Sacto), he needs to listen to Sac PD channels 1 & 3 on the City TRS (3 during day, 1 late at night), the Fire Dispatch B (which is on the County system, NOT the City TRS) and Dispatch B2, B6, B7, and B8 (6,7,8 are all tactical channels for major incidents. B2 is regular dispatch).

He won't get much activity on the Sheriff channels in his area as he's in the City limits. Occasionally pursuits and stuff will head that way from the county, but not too frequently.

As far as I know, it's not illegal to have a scanner mounted in a vehicle. In fact, the only electronics law I can think of off-hand is that no TV screen can be mounted such that it's visible to the driver. (now the new navigation/stereo screens may not qualify-not sure). But I digress. You do NOT have to register it with anyone. That's funny, never thought of anything like that before. But no, don't have to. Go ahead, mount it up, and drive around listening. Just don't get in any public safety employee's way while performing their duties...then, you'll have problems.

Well, if you look up that TG ID on the County system, that's who I work for. And, unfortunately, the likelihood of getting anyone a job is about nil. Just go to http://www.co.sacramento.ca.us and look for job links. But, we're not hiring (and I'll not go any futher off-topic here).

i just answered this question for someone else...it might have been you...this is what i said.

I don't know about the laws in california, but when i used to live in florida the law was:

it is legal to own a scanner

it is legal to listen to a scanner in your home

it is legal to have a scanner in your car (turned off)

it is legal to listen to a scanner in your car (turned on) if and only if you meet one of two criteria.
1 - you are a HAM radio operator
2 - you are a public safety worker (police, firefighter, EMT, red cross)

now that i have moved to nevada i don't give a darn because i'm a FF/EMT.

as for sac freq's.....
