I have read a good bit of the manual for my Pro-95 and I don't think this is an error on my end. There's something wrong with the scanner.

I have the Oklahoma DPS (Motorola Type II Smartnet) system in Bank 0. My talkgroup banks separate the channels. For example, TG Bank 0-0 is OKC Highway Patrol, TG Bank 0-1 may be County Police, TG Bank 0-2 may be Regional Mutual Aid, etc....

If I try to turn off the talkgroup bank for the highway patrol, it still scans those talkgroups. I can even try to individually turn off talkgroups, but it still scans talkgroups that are locked out. According to the manual (and logic), locking out talkgroups and talkgroup banks should not allow those talkgroups to be scanned. But they are still scanned anyway.

I tried Opening & Closing the bank, but that only eliminates talkgroups that are not already in memory. My goal is to store known talkgroups in memory, lock them out, and keep the bank Open to look for unknown talkgroups. Evidently the scanner has an error.

One more wierd thing is that sometimes the scanner won't recognize a talkgroup that is in memory, but just give its ID, even though it's already stored as something. This may be part of my lockout issue - I'm not sure. But I feel confident that there is an error in the talkgroup lockout.

If I am reading your post right, I think you are misunderstanding the manual. If you have the bank open, even talkgroups you locked out in "closed mode" will be scanned. The ONLY way to lock out groups is to have the scanner in "closed mode". Open mode is just that....its wide open and scans everything (even locked out groups). Closed mode means it scans what you want to hear (AKA groups you programmed).

There is no way (that I know of) to lockout groups in open mode.

No, the scanner is not broken, this is the way the Pro-92, 93, & 95 operate. It is simple, if the bank is in OPEN mode, you will hear everything. If the bank is in CLOSED mode, you will only hear those TG's which you have programmed and not locked out. With this information, review the second problem you described and see if it still is not detecting a preprogrammed ID (there may be another explanation for that apparent activity).

This is not the way the Pro-96 works BTW. 8)

Open/Closed modes

Okay, I'll give it a try in Closed Mode. I also have a Pro-94 and am used to following systems in Scan/Search modes, which is similar to Open/Closed. I guess there really isn't a good way to search for new talkgroups without hearing all the other stuff then, is there? Thanks for your help. Gilligan
