• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Tall group priority… but not set as a priority.

I’m fairly new to the Unication eco-system… so I may have remedial questions.

I have a zone set for talk group scan. NONE of them are set to priority… but no matter what a certain talk group overrides others.

Is this a known issue? Or have I done something wrong?

Also… one particular talk group engages voice recording. It’s the only one that does that. I don’t want this to happen. Do I have a box checked wrong somewhere within PPS?

Thank you!

Priority is determined by order in the list, even though you may have all of your TG's in the non-priority box. The TG's towards the top will override the rest. As far as recording, that is determined by clicking on the TGID's for the system and selecting 'voice storage'. On the settings for the specific channel knob, when 'ID match' is selected, only the TG's that have checked boxes will be recorded.

Big help. Thank you.

One more question… completely unrelated but I don’t want to start another thread as it’s been, somewhat, already discussed.

I stupidly purchased the G5, honestly I can’t remember when, thinking it would handle an analogue trunking system… So it sat for quite a while unboxed. I’m experiencing the same “three led’s” that light after a few hours of power down that many have mentioned before. Current firmware installed and the battery handles a full charge very well… at least 10-12 hours of heavy use.

I contacted the dealer who suggested the problem may be the aged battery. So the solution was to replace. Does this sound viable?

Thanks!

Are you talking about the red led along with two orange ones when you turn it on? I remember seeing mine do this a few times back in 2018 or so. At the time, there were a few mentions of it being battery, or firmware related. I'm not 100% sure what the culprit was with mine since I never really had battery issues, but did get a new one when they changed battery types. I've darn near programmed it to death over the years. It's seen more than a half dozen firmware updates, and all flavors of PPS, along with constant changes and re-arranging channel knobs, zones, TG's and radio ID's.

The new batteries are much better than the old type, but to be honest, I wouldn't sweat it too much, unless it gets hot, refuses to charge, or won't last through the day. My G5 has been a tough little trooper that's been used & abused for almost 8 years, and still works perfectly!
