Tanker fire

I heard the initial dispatch (on Colusa Co Fire) and comms on Cal Fire South Lake/Napa channel. I heard them say there was about 1/2 acre of vegetation involved as well and it will take 4-5 hours (as of 10:30).

The cab and first trailer have now burned themselves out. The second trailer is still shooting good flames and very black smoke. Looks like fire units are keeping back about 100-200 feet.

75K gallons???? I don't think so. Try 7500 gallons. A gasoline hauler can only handle maximum 9800 gals.

Good catch. But that error is not scannerboy's fault; he just quoted what was entered in the CHP CAD system.

I am aware of that. I assume it was either a typo by the person doing CAD data entry, or the officer in the field mis-understood what he was told. The driver would know he was not hauling 75,000 gals.

I also noted the Chopper commentator (whose name I have forgotten) was theorizing what sort of metal the tank was made of. It would be aluminum.

The news would be much better if reporters would stick to facts and stop the theorizing to fill airtime.

Yup! Their job is to REPORT, and nothing more. I also don't want to hear about personal experiences. Just REPORT, that's all.
