Is there anyway I can use a VOX recorded with a scanner without picking up backround noise. Currently I just put the recorder by the radio. But is there anything that can go from the mic jack to the headphone jack of the scanner, still using VOX to record without picking up outside noise. Thanks in advance.

Plug the headphone jack of the scanner into the mic jack of the recorder. There is nothing complex about it.

Pick up a patch cord from Radio Shack, and make sure it is not an attenuating patch cord. If you're really serious about recording stuff from the scanner, and you have a few bucks burning your pocket, check out the NiteLogger. I think this is the website

Otherwise, just use the patch cord, and make a couple of test recordings so you can get the level control set just right.

Another option is to plug your scanner output into the line-in jack of your computer's sound card, and run Xcorder from www.xcorder.com . It's a great free VOX recording program.

Xcorder works great for me.

But then I get computers from work to dedicate to scanner recording.
