TAYLOR, Mich. -- A Taylor police officer is in serious condition after being struck in a hit-and-run accident while assisting a driver. And now, Taylor police are seeking the public’s help to identify the driver and vehicle.
The incident happened at 8:59 p.m. on the shoulder of westbound I-94 at Monroe in Taylor.
Police told Local 4 that the officer was assisting a motorist whose vehicle had stalled. The officer and the idled car were hit by a white car.
Police said the hit-and-run vehicle fled west on I-94 and exited at Telegraph Road.
The white car is described as a late 1990s or early 2000 model Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis or a similar-looking model, police said.
Investigators said the vehicle will have heavy front-end damage and possibly passenger-side damage to the headlight, turn signal and heavy damage to the windshield.
Police said the car could have maroon paint that came from the crash with the stalled car.
A witness told police that the suspect car had a Michigan “sunset-style” license plate.
The officer is in serious condition at a local hospital.
The officer has not yet been identified. The driver of the stalled vehicle was not injured.
The accident had the right lanes of westbound I-94 at Telegraph shut down.
