Hello everyone, I have a question about the capability of motorola xir M8668i at TCP/IP connection. Looks like I am going to get several of used radio with the same type as what I mentioned before and I would like to experiment on them by connecting all of these radios through TCP/IP network. As far as I know, smartPTT application is able to send files between radios using DMR signal alone from one computer to another. I know the transfer rate will be very slow since it will use DMR RF signal, but it does not matter since it is for experiment only. However, what I don't understand here is what type of connection is used to connect between the radio and the computer and which port should I used to connect both of them. Furthermore, I would like to implement this kind of connection with smaller linux-based computer by utilizing serial/uart connection between the computer and the radio. Do you know what kind of setup (cables, etc) I need to connect them, which port should I use to do this and and which software can I use to program the radio in order to be able to utilize TCP/IP connection? any reference (links, websites, etc) that you can provide here is really appreciated, thx before.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My understanding is that it is packet data based on CAI. A google search says it is related to CAI IP and it is an IP transfer.

RDNIS. The interface is RDNIS. You can set the IP settings in TRBO CPS but you may have to enable some sort of modem setting like you do with P25 to pass that IP data through from the USB interface to the rest of the network. The RDNIS driver for those radios has been in the Linux kernel for well over a decade now.
can you recommend any link for using this interface with motorola, and is it limited to motorola only?

Hello, I came across a video : Guy showed how to connect two computers through two Motorola radios. Once all set, one computer can ping the other computer. Ping message will be sent through UHF RF path. There are more videos on youtube that shows how to even transfer a file using this way...
