Technician Class

I just got home from taking the test for Technician Class and I passed! I want to thank Gordon West for providing his study book. I also want to thank the Allegan County Amateur Club for putting on the test. As I was leaving I was told by one of the VE's he expects to see an antenna up very soon!

But...

Unless your license is actually granted today (9/30/2013), you may have to wait a while since the FCC will essentially be shut down if our Senators and Representatives can't get their act together and pass some sort of interim budget by midnight!

I read that on Saturday after I got home from taking the test. If they didn't get a paycheck during a shutdown I bet something would be passed in a heartbeat

Yes for now I have two. I have a Baofeng UV5R and a UV5RC. I am saving up for a mobile radio which I will more thank likely use in the car and as a base. Tomorrow I hope to get the coax ran into the house for the dual band J-Pole antenna I built. I do have a dual band antenna on the car. I am looking at a battery eliminator for the hand held radios for use in the car until I get a mobile.

I made my first contact tonight. I am planning on joining the club here in Allegan County. I can make the meetings in the winter. I can now put my SKYWARN training to work also.
