I prefer to listen only to major events on Fire/Med. On the Phoenix RWC network the K1 Fire Dispatch is almost constant minor medical incidents. The channel is almost always active. I miss my other networks (Topaz) due to K1 always begin active. I'm trying to figure out a way to just get the biggest incidents? I thought maybe just scanning the K2-K9 (minus K4&K5) channels instead of dispatch? Any other ideas? I heard something about actual fire calls only being dispatched on VHF? Is that even possible since K1 is patched already?

As far as I know, K1 and A1 carry the same traffic.

I'd say your best bet is to used a priority monitoring mode, if your scanner has it - or remove K1 from your scan list.

I do not monitor K1 on my SDS. I use an older VHF scanner for A1 (Phx), B2 (Mesa) & Rural metro.

I'd suggest removing K1 from the list and then marking your most wanted channels as priority for sure.

I suggest that you watch Phoenix Fire Department Incidents . When you see an event you are interested in, see what channel it is on and monitor that. This will go a long way to accomplish what you want, but it is not perfect as some calls are not shown on this public view.

If you only want "major" events, listen only to K-10, K-11, K-12, and K13.

VHF freqs will still carry the BBQ fires, the minor injury accidents, check flooding calls, etc. and the internet Incident Board is edited heavily - no shootings, no crime scenes, and even some "normal" calls are not available. Recently, an injury traffic accident stayed on the board for over 3 days with only DPS assigned to it on the A101.

3&1 assignments, some hazmat calls, and the like can still be on the regional 'A' or 'K' deck channels.

None of you have mentioned when it comes to things dispatched by PFRDC that all fires including the the major ones, not just the BBQ fires, are on the Analog A Deck. If you only listen to K deck as suggested, you will miss all of the fires.

Bottom line is, you may have to listen on more than 1 scanner. As suggested earlier, I use one scanner for PFRDC Channel 1 and another scanner for everything else.

So all fires are on A1? And not on K1? Are the med calls also on A1? I thought they were. I have trouble picking up A1 from my home in Queen Creek.

A1 and K1 are simulcast for dispatch. Fireground response is on the A Decks and the Medical and other non hazard responses are on the K Decks. In Queen Creek I don't think you can hear RWC well enough to hear K1 but I cold be wrong. You should be able to easily hear Topaz since Queen Creek is on that system.

K1 on RWC I can hear fine. A1 vhf is sometimes scratchy I guess due to what tower I’m picking up.
