Temp system or frequencies in Carbondale IL? (Eclipse-related)

Since the eclipse is coming through Carbondale Illinois on Monday things are getting quite hectic.

The city is getting a lot of help from the state in beefing up communications for the weekend and I'm noticing that the Carbondale PD dispatch CH 1, 2 and 3 (tac) have fallen silent.

Anyone out there have an idea what might be going on? I'm pretty sure the change is going to be system-capacity related so I'm wondering if they have hopped on the starcom21 system that the Illinois State Police use. Perhaps with some temp sites being put up.

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I suspect Carbondale is switching over to some kind of digital (P25?) system. For months now I have been noticing occasional digital burst sounds on 151.185Mhz, which is as close as I can get to a Radio Reference tentatively listed new frequency of 151.1825Mhz on my BC95XLT. This morning however, I stopped hearing just about anything on their analog voice channels while 151.1825Mhz was extremely active. I suspect, although I'm not entirely sure, this means my old scanner has just become obsolete. I can't find very many postings about changeovers throughout the southern Illinois area, but I have heard some say that this has been planned for quite a while.

Well then, I guess that answers the question. I've been waiting for this to happen for quite a while. I guess on a related note, I haven't heard much on the SIU PD campus channel since late last spring. They may have switched earlier. Thanks for the quick response.

Considering the whole "event" is 3 minutes? I'd just use the broadcastify links they have for that area and south. I listen to them on occasion when bad weather is on the radar.

the broadcastify link no longer works for CPD. It mentions that since 'trunking' he doesn't have the capability to do the feed.

that sounds like voice encryption. Makes sense- if you are going to put money into a new system why not go brand new tech?

I think they wanted to get to trunking for the load of traffic coming over the next five days. Since it is mentioned above the channel has been active for a while.

damn, there goes CPD.

I guess now we need to definitively ID what system and technologies are being used - to see if we're done scanning CPD or if we just don't know all the particulars yet for the scanner.

well I'm sure they will be enough people traveling to the area to do some radio decoding while in Carbondale this weekend! LOL

Quite a bit of info, thank you.

I do have a couple of questions here though:

1. What is the FB2 and MO designation?
2. I wanted to try to enter the PD but it was asking about a NAC Color Code?

FB2 is the repeater output. MO is the mobile transmit.

NAC(Network Access Code) is a 3 digit hexadecimal code that is used by P25 systems for access control similar to PL/DPL. Colour Code is used for access control by DMR systems and is also similar in function as PL/DPL.
