I understand it was highly rated in a recent WRTH review; I'd also check out a recent Passband to World Band Radio review, if they did one. Also I'd check in here;

And yes, the N4PY software is highly regarded, but there are several others that also support it (and some of these support the R75 as well)...

I have the TenTec 350 and its a fine unit. Its my main, well only receiver I use for SWL. Alot of nice features and builtin DSP. My only beef is the Freq Sweep seems to be only useful for strong AM stations, If your trying to pick out weak stations with the scope it seems impossible you will have to do it old school... listen! :)

Another thing is we have not seen many updates from Tentec firmware wise, no radio is perfect it would be nice to see improvements made with the firmware.

I'm an extra class ham and I have sever HF radios. My favorite is a TenTec Pegasus. This is the unit that is a computer case and only has an on/off swiltch. No dials or buttons. The TenTec software that lets your computer become the front of the radio has been updated several times and works good.

But for outstanding results and to make it a super receiver the N4PY software is essential. This software is also available for many other radios and receivers and is updated regularly. I highly recommend it.

For about the same price as a good receiver you can buy the Pegasus and have listening and transmittinng capability. Can't be beat for a ham or anyone that is planning on becoming a ham.

TenTec has discontinued the Pegasus, but they still have some that have been factory reconditioned.

Frankly if you really want to pull in distant stations you need an antenna that would also be capable of transmitting. I have a G5RV that is almost 15 years old that works like a champ both receiving and transmitting. Not bad for fifty dollars. It has been laying in a line of trees all of this time and I have never had any problems with it.

Anyone own one of these? I'm looking to purchase a second tabletop HF receiver for the home. I currently own an Icom R75. Perhaps, I should go with a second R75? Any opinions will be much appreciated.

They are both good receivers so I guess that best question for you to ask yourself is, "What is my `threashold of pain' $ & ¢ wise? Does what each model provides provide enough anethestic? Or... Do I even need anesthesia?" Once you've decided then go ahead and make the purchase and don't try and look back and second guess yourself.

Just an `Olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {GRIN!}
