TENATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED ON SCANNER ISSUE

My question now is. What type of programmable scanner are they gonna give them to be able to monitor the digital EDACS System?

Didn't think there was a scanner that could monitor this.

Wichita Falls city officials believe they have reached an agreement that may put an end to the ongoing scanner controversy. For more than a month, the local media and citizens have been unable to hear police radio transmissions. The change happened after the city moved to a digitally encrypted system, but now, the city is offering to temporarily make programmed scanners available to the media outlets. Long-term, the city is hoping to give the media access to a computer dispatch system that would relay the calls 15 minutes after they come in. So far, the Times Record News has signed off on the new deal, but KAUZ and KFDX are still reviewing the city`s proposal.

Sounds like a recorded version of the calls. Unless they have a new scanner which has instant record! :shock:

They don't mention the scanner being offered to the general public!

they are probably macom radios programmed for just dispatch channels and transmit inhibited. This is what some other places have done.

Hmmmmmmmm............... CAD access with a 15 minute delay? That's not very good for breaking news. By the time the news crews get there, the scene could be vacant of any public safety officials and they'd miss the main event that took place.

I agree with n4voxgill. That is what is done here in SATX. The local media has MA/COM radios that were programmed with dispatch channels & tx inhibited, even though IMO most of the media couldn't tell you whether it was an scanner or an commercial grade two way radio.
