Terminated longwire antenna on a drone?

I've been trying to research the use of a terminated long wire antenna for drones that have restricted performance requirements (mostly traveling in a relatively straight line) but which have to operate in areas with a lot of RF interference. It would be 1.2m for a 10-wavelength antenna at 2.4ghz which looks practical. However all the information I can find is for such antennas mounted close to the ground. I'm trying to figure out if the presence of the ground is important to the performance, or if such an antenna would work at say 500m above the ground?
